Dive In!
Dreams are best pursued by diving in head first. With majestic underwater worlds and treasures right on our doorstep, Mnarani is the perfect place to do just that! These are just a few of the most awesome dive sites…
1. Vuma Caves
North of big rock there are many overhangs and shallow caves concentrated in one area. Here you can find loads of different colourful aquatic forms of life as well as the odd Jenkins Whipray. Maximum depth 20 meters.
#Hot Tip – If you’re looking to spot whale sharks, this is the best site!
2. The Mpv Fish Eagle
She is a 53 meter multi-purpose vessel that was originally built in Germany. Before this artificial reef was sunk, it was prepared and cleaned to remove all toxins that could be harmful to the environment. The reef was prepped for diver safety and this new dive site is one of Buccaneer Diving’s most exciting dive sites. This artificial site attracts huge schools of fish and other diverse marine life, which makes it a must for anyone diving in Kenyan waters.
3. Swahili Deep
In front of the Swahili House fringing reef, you will find Swahili Deep. This site resembles a cutting in the sandy bottom from 18 to 26 meters and this site is recommended for advanced divers. Along this wall you can spot Napoleon Wrasse, potato groupers and large shoals of blue triggerfish, five lined snappers and surgeonfish.
Still a Beginner?
Don’t worry, Buccaneer Diving will accompany you on your journey under the sea and they will have you out into the water in no time at all. If you’ve never dived before, you can enjoy a free 1 hour trial dive in Mnarani’s pool when you stay at Mnarani. These dive sites are great for beginners and ideal for children!
1. The Creek
The creek is a macro paradise, where large shoals of silverside and trevally can be spotted, as well as barracudas hunting them. Other sightings include nudibranchs, shrimps, juvenile lionfish, pipe fish, ghost pipe fish and leaf fish. On rare occasion, you might even spot a flying gurnard!
2. The Black Marlin and Baobab
These sites are ideal for diving at almost any time and for all levels of divers. Several species of groupers, chocolate dips, crocodile fish, anemonefish, six stripe soapfish, dart goby, angelfish, butterfly fish, wrasse, moray and many other exotic fish species can be found here. There are also green turtle and hawksbill turtle.
When is the best time to dive wild Kenya?
The dive school only operates when conditions are ideal. Keep an eye on the Mnarani website for closure dates. The best times to dive are from October to mid-December, and from February to late-April. The sea is calmest then, and offers the best chance to spot whale sharks. The conditions during these times also happen to be great for water sports, so why not explore magical Kenya from both underneath and above the waters!
